National Niewald Vacation 2012
Day One ~ We left Houston at around 4:30pm. The girls were sitting in car for 30 minutes waiting for us to finish grabbing everything but the kitchen sink "just in case". By the time we backed out of the drive way, our air conditioner had turned itself off because the engine was over heating! Mike thought if we got moving it would flush the hot air out of the engine and cool us down and that was a great idea until we hit rush hour Houston traffic. We ended up cruising thru Houston with both windows down with no a/c. Quick decision made to stop in Katy to get Los Cucos and a margarita for mommy. In the mean time, we have been flicked off by a rather aggravated commuter. Although neither of us are quite sure why. After filling our bellies we were off again. We stopped to get gas and Mike decided to check his handy work (he changed our belts Thursday evening). He discovered that our belt was rubbing on something. So with hood popped and car manual out, he got us fixed up...Or did he? Just kidding! After that it was smooth sailing to San Antonio. We played our first of many roadtrip bingo games (notice from above picture, we managed to not find a police car until we saw it with SOMEONE ELSE pulled over) and both girls journaled day one in there spirals. We got set up in our room at the Holiday Inn Express in San Antonio and low and behold the girls find left over KFC, 2 cans of open salsa, yogurt and various other condements in the refridgerator and a dirty flip flop wrapped in toilet paper in the closet. What??? Not again? Once before, on our way to the Coon family vacay at the beach, we slept in a DIRTY room and didn't realize it until the next morning when I went to take a shower and it was dirty. UGH!!! (P.S. It was a Quality Inn.) So we always THOROUGHLY check our rooms before we sleep now. The desk clerk was very apoligetic and moved us to a new CLEAN room. now everyone is snug as bugs in a CLEAN rug...
Glad Wacky Jack wasn't tied to the bumper!
